Associazione Cometa ODV was born from the hands-on experience of family foster care and has grown into a living network of families committed to the education of children and young people, the support of their families, and the promotion of a culture of care as a fundamental dimension of life.
It all began in 1986, from an encounter that gave meaning back to the lives of two brothers and paved the way for welcoming a child in foster care. Since then, the experience has expanded encounter after encounter, until it became a structured Association in 2000, now a point of reference for many families who choose not to be alone in their educational mission.
Cometa is first and foremost a home: a relational and educational environment where each person can grow and develop their potential, accompanied by an attentive and skilled approach.

A great family to support the family
Through the family network of Associazione Cometa ODV, at the request of Social Services, newborns, children, and young people who have been removed from their family of origin by order of the Juvenile Court can find a welcoming home.
The network families are those who over time have spontaneously developed a willingness to welcome minors and who, after a training programme, began the foster care experience with the support of the Association.
The family network operates and is present particularly in the provinces of Como, Bergamo, Monza e Brianza, Lecco, Milan, and Varese.
In recent years, the Association’s activities have expanded nationally and internationally through active participation in a network of families in Piedmont, Abruzzo, and Puglia and in other countries overseas such as the United States, as well as opportunities for dialogue on the topic of foster care with families from various regions of Italy.
The distinctive feature of Associazione Cometa is its conception of foster care and adoption as aspects of a broader and more impactful culture — that of care. The Association offers real support to families who decide to welcome children and young people into foster care.
Foster care is a complex experience that requires continuous self-reflection. Over time, families involved in this journey — and beyond — have expressed the need for a space for discussing educational challenges related to raising children, highlighting the need for greater skills and knowledge to face the issues that arise in everyday life.
The support of the multidisciplinary team and the constant, widespread exchange with other families, which have become pillars of the Association, are therefore essential so that this experience, rich in joys and challenges, can be properly addressed and evaluated together.
